Micah Lemon
High School Ministry Resident
Micah Lemon has been working at Neighborhood this summer (since June 2008). Micah currently serves as the High School Ministry Resident, in the Student Ministries Department.
Tell us about yourself:
I was raised by two loving parents, Marsue and Dennis Lemon, along with my grandmother, Maxine Grant. These people loved me and knew that for me to have an amazing life that was full I needed to know the Creator who created me. I was raised at Neighborhood Church until my family moved to Manteca before my junior high years. During high school I felt the Lord’s call for me to serve Him by serving youth full time. I then attended Biola University where I earned a bachelor’s degree in Biblical Studies and Theology. I started working at Long Beach Alliance Church and after my small group of high school guys graduated I moved to northern California where I now serve here at Neighborhood Church.
What do you do as High School Ministry Resident?
I literally live at Neighborhood (in the Port) and I serve the high school ministry. Any opportunity that is available in order to challenge students to think critically about their lives and this world I desire to serve. I not only work with the programming of Omega but I love spending time outside church with our students and creating life long relationships that challenge them to invest in the most important relationship, the one between them and their Lord and Savior.
What is the best part of your job?
I think the best part of this job is seeing the unexpected happen. With youth sometimes it is the kid you think will be the most challenging that God ends up using to shine as the brightest witness to humble us and remind us that it is God’s ministry we are only along for the ride.
What do you order at Starbucks?
Usually a white chocolate mocha at 140 degrees (my baby mouth can’t handle super hot stuff). Or if its hot hot hot I order an iced caramel macchiato
What do you collect?
I collect discs for disc golf. I don’t really collect but people sort of gift me with random spider-man memorabilia which I then put in my house.
If you had a million dollars to spend today, what would you buy?
I would probably buy an apt complex. Live in it and then rent out the rooms to church members and then the majority of the others to homeless and financially hurting people. Then make it a sweet commune that makes a weekly effort to care for the spiritual and physical needs of the surrounding neighborhood. Then probably just think of sweet ways to surprise people. I’ve always wanted to save up my change for a few years. Buy a fur coat from the Goodwill then fill the pockets with the tons of change. Then when the first person struggling with homelessness asked for change I would scream, “Jackpot!” and shower them with the tons of change and give them the jacket…
What talent do you wish you had?
I wish I was more musically talented. One of my favorite times is when I’m singing to our Lord.
What food do you absolutely love? What food do you hate?
Pasta! Little tip go to Rigatoni’s and order off the menu then say I’d like a half order of that. You end up having a feast for $5. Amazing! I don’t hate anything especially food.
