Community Life Coordinator
Tell us about yourself:
I have been going to Neighborhood Church since I was in the womb... almost 23 years ago. After living in the same house for the first 18 years of my life, I moved to Southern California to attend The Master's College in Santa Clarita. After four incredible years of academic and spiritual growth, many deep friendships, and countless nights of sleep lost to studying, I graduated with a BA in English in May of 2008. During those four years I was able to participate in some really amazing opportunities. Along with 30 other Master's students, I packed up and moved to Israel for a semester of studying the Bible and Jewish history and culture. I also spent two summers in Uganda, Africa, doing work with a missionary family. The Lord truly used these experiences to shape me into the person I am today. I am so thankful for the time I was given to do those things, and I am thankful that the Lord has brought me back home to Castro Valley, to serve Him here in my home town. I am so happy to be with my wonderful parents and two beautiful sisters again. It is a joy to be back and to be serving among my life-long church family here at Neighborhood.
What do you do as Community Life Coordinator?
I work for such an incredible team of guys here on the Community Life Team! I really respect each one of them and recognize their real gifting for service in the church body. Their focus is on bringing glory to Christ and that demands huge respect in my eyes. My job is to basically do whatever they need me to do - organize group information, promote and plan events, coordinate volunteers, and work personally with small group leaders and members - just to name a few tasks.
What is the best part of your job?
Monday morning coffee at Peet's with The West Wing few and proud.
What do you order at Starbucks?
I never go to Starbucks... My favorite spots are Peet's or Zocalo. My order is always the same: small non-fat vanilla latte with extra, extra foam. Once or twice a year I decide to ignore the extra calories and dive into a delicious breve vanilla latte (with extra, extra foam, of course).
PS - If you are ever in downtown Pasadena, go to a coffee house called The Equator and order a chai latte. It's the best drink I have ever had in my life (not an exaggeration).
What do you collect?
Books, antique jewelry, and post-card art from art museum gift shops.
What is your favorite food?
Hands down, my favorite food on the planet is the BBQ chopped tri-tip salad at Stonefire Grill. Unfortunately, Stonefire only exists in SoCal! I'm petitioning for them to branch up here. I could eat there twice a day, every day for the rest of my life... I'm passionate about this place.
If you could be doing anything right now, what would it be?
Sketching at Zocalo with Coldplay in my ears.
What talent do you wish you had?
I wish I could speed-read. I love reading, but I'm the slowest reader on earth.
