Today we’ll learn about another promise God makes to those who belong to Him—it is a promise that is especially meaningful in view of the many things that tend to enslave us. To any who feel they are in bondage to anything today, God makes this promise: I will deliver you! Our God is our mighty deliverer! The Psalmist proclaims, “The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge. He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold” (Ps. 18:2). It has been the cry of humankind ever since the fall that God deliver us. When Jesus taught His disciples to pray, he included the phrase, “And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one” (Mt. 6:13). The Apostle Paul believed with confidence that God’s power to deliver could be seen even from the past, present and future perspective when writing to the Corinthians, “[God] has delivered us from such a deadly peril, and he will deliver us. On him we have set our hope that he will continue to deliver us…” (2 Cor. 1:10).
