Announcement

"Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ!

If you were not able to attend one of our worship services this Sunday, you missed an exciting announcement!  Let me fill you in.

On the first Sunday of January, 2019, I will be passing the baton of my role as Senior Pastor to Pastor Danny Strange!  This transition has come from a process we’ve been in with our Governing Elders for the past several years.  God has orchestrated all the details and made his will known by having our Governing Elders unanimously agree that Pastor Danny would be my successor and that the transition time would be this January.

I joined the staff of 3Crosses in 1980 and for the past 38 years, I’ve enjoyed serving our church in some kind of pastoral role. I have served in my current role as senior pastor for the past 23 years.  I know my tenure as senior pastor won’t break any records, but I’ve simply tried to be faithful to God’s calling in my life.  God has been so good to me.  I love our church family and will continue to serve God’s people for as long as I am able.

Allow me to share with you that I couldn’t be more delighted about this decision, and let me explain why.  First, 3Crosses is, and will always be, the Church of our Lord Jesus Christ.  He is our true shepherd.  He promised to build his Church and that nothing could prevail against it.  Our church has been in His hands from its beginning, eighty-one years ago!  And if he tarries, it will remain in His hands long after all of us are gone.

Second, Pastor Danny is the right choice to be my successor.  He met Christ and was saved in our youth ministry.  He knows and loves our church, our unique culture and outreach to our community and our elders have sensed God’s affirmation for him to become our next Senior Pastor.  For these reasons and more, I’m one hundred percent behind this decision and can’t wait to support Danny’s initiatives as our next Senior Pastor.

Third, I’m going to remain on staff as one of our pastors after the succession season is complete.  After returning from a sabbatical leave (probably a few months), I will be working full-time in the area of Shepherding.  This role, while still being crafted, will include many of the things I do right now, such as providing pastoral care, preaching on occasion and mentoring our younger generation pastors.   I’m thrilled to remain a part of our great ministry and to have opportunity to support Danny’s leadership.

When I shared this news with our church family this past weekend, I opened with Paul’s words to the Philippians: “I thank my God every time I remember you.  In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now” (Philippians 1:2-5).  It’s true…as I pray for you daily, my heart is filled with joy.  It is my prayer that we will enter into this season together, filled with the joy of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Please take a few minutes to listen, on the 3Crosses Podcast (or use the link below), to a discussion between me and Pastor Danny to hear a little bit more about the process of how we got here—and where we are going in the future.  We are excited to include our church family in making this transition something that honors God and expands our gospel reach as a church."

Blessings,
Pastor Larry
